When the forecast called for 6 to 12 inches, I thought that meant we would get a uniform amount within that range. I had forgotten about the Midwest wind – the same wind that was powerful enough to blow Dorothy into another dimension. With this wind, a snowfall of 6 to 12 inches becomes drifts of 0 to 24 inches. Walking in this wind today, I remembered a winter in South Dakota when I saw a full-size dumpster blowing down a downtown street like a sheet of paper.
